What is the DRDL 2023 Ltd?

DRDL 2023 Ltd's founder, Roger Fewtrell, has been slowly developing his plan to build affordable homes for Dunedin’s first home buyers for a number of years. Before retiring Roger bought and developed a number of sections in central Dunedin. These projects were mainly larger architectural builds that were snapped up by the architecturally curious. This process of taking a bare section or a dilapidated house and turning it into something interesting and functional was something he enjoyed doing.

 

After retiring from his role at Southern Hospitality Roger decided he wanted to continue building new houses, but this time for people who need the houses. This was when DRDL 2023 Ltd was born.

Roger has always enjoyed helping people overcome challenges and give them a hand to get ahead in life. This company is taking Roger’s philanthropy one step further and looks to help people in Dunedin get out of the renting trap and into a place of their own.

How are we going to do all this?

​

We have been buying property around Dunedin – from Mosgiel to North Dunedin, and lots of places in between. We are then developing these properties by subdividing and building good solid houses, duplexes, and apartments. These homes are all different, we have one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom places being built. We have prioritised using local building businesses to utilise the skills we have in Dunedin. For each subdivision we have different businesses building the houses, so our developments won’t be cookie cutter repeats of the same home.

As of October 2024, we have over 150 sections purchased. Our first properties should be completed mid 2025, with our first homeowners moving in soon after. We are always in the market for more land to purchase, so these numbers will keep going up.
