One site. Two projects: Rattray Street

Updated: May 14

This site is probably our most challenging, but also our most exciting, and when faced with a challenge we like to get creative.

This is the former Scoullar & Chisholm Ltd furniture manufacturer site on Rattray Street next to Otago Girls’ High School’s performing arts suit. The building has been unused for some time, the pigeons have taken up residence, the old windows keep blowing in and rubbish keeps getting dumped on the empty site.

A bird's-eye view of the site for development. The new build will be to the left, with the entrance to carparking via a driveway between the buildings.

Our plans for this site have changed. Initially we wanted to develop the existing building and build a new block of apartments. However, in order to stay on track with building for first home buyers we will only be developing the existing building.

We will be renovating the old furniture warehouse into four apartments (three two-bedroom and one three-bedroom). These apartments will be spacious and modern. The designs we are looking at utilise features of the existing building while making sure the new homes will be comfortable, warm and cosy for their new owners. There will be onsite parking for these apartments.

There is a lot of work to be done to the existing structure and vacant site before we get started. But we can’t wait to share progress with you all. We know this challenge will be worth it.

We have Resource Consent to build on the site. This consent has come with a number of conditions we must work with. We will be pulling on our contractors and heritage advisors to ensure that these conditions are met.
